What A Cut And Polish Involves
Paint Inspected Under Light
We look at what is actually in the clear coat before quoting, since defect depth decides the approach.
Wash And Decontamination First
Nothing gets polished over grit. The surface is cleaned and decontaminated before a machine touches it.
Machine Cutting Stage
The stage that removes defects, levelling a fine amount of clear coat to take the swirls out.
Refining Polish
Cutting leaves its own haze. Refining is what brings the gloss back up.
Protection Applied Over The Corrected Paint
A lot of what gets sold as cut and polish is a glaze that fills defects with oils. It looks excellent for a fortnight, then the fillers wash out and the swirls are exactly where they were.
Real correction removes a controlled amount of clear coat so the defect no longer exists. That is why it takes machine time, why it is priced per vehicle, and why we look at your paint before quoting rather than selling a fixed package.
Clear coat is finite and does not grow back. Titan takes the least it needs to get the result, and Ab will tell you when a panel has already had enough taken off it by somebody else.
How It Works
Where Defects Sit In Your Paint
Not every mark can be polished out. How deep it sits decides that, and it is the first thing Ab looks at.
Cross section through the paint, not to scale. Clear coat is around 40 to 50 microns on most cars.
Wash Swirls
Fine circular marks sitting in the top of the clear coat, almost always put there by the wrong wash. A cutting stage removes them entirely, and this is most of what a cut and polish deals with.
